Fort Blockhouse was recently the home for 83 Air Cadet & CCF Musicians. Musical Instruction was given by Air Cadet Staff. Four cadets from Hampshire & IOW Wing and Wing Music Officer Fg Off Phillips were in attendance.

The second ACO National Marching Band Camp was again held in Hampshire, this time the cadets were hoping to be selected for the Cadet 150 parade in London.

The band throughout the week took part in musical training as well as other cadet activities such as shooting, clay pigeon shooting, flying and of course the mandatory karaoke and disco nights!

Just three days into the camp we found out that HMS Ark Royal was due to leave port to embark on a trip to America so with the help of Fort Blockhouse word was given to the Captain that the band would like to play them out from the officers mess veranda, the Captain saluted the cadets as they went by.

The final performance was held on the Thursday at the RAF Museum Hendon where the band performed two thirty minute sets in front of Commandant Air Cadets Air Commodore Ian Stewart and a crowd of parents and visitors.

The Friday saw the cadets visit Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with visits to Warrior, HMS Victory and Action Stations along with a visit to the Gosport Submarine Museum. The end of that day saw an X Factor style panel telling cadets whether they had made it into the 72 strong Corps Band for Cadet 150.

Cdt Flt Sgt Helen Lacey 1098 Gosport Sqn (Bell Lyre), Cdt Cpl Josh Humphrey 2412 Bordon Sqn (Trumpet), Cdt Joseph Booley 2412 Bordon Sqn (Euphonium) and Cdt Hannah Matthews 1927 Petersfield Sqn (Clarinet) were all selected for the Corps band and will now lead the ATC contingent in London on 6th July 2010 and each have an invitation to the Royal Garden Party. Congratulations go to them.
