Staff and Cadet Achievements recognised

The achievements of staff and cadets were recognised by the Lord Lieutenant for Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan DCVO JP and invited guests at the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing annual awards ceremony held at Wing Headquarters recently.

Mrs Marguarit Lundregan, who for many years worked at Wing Headquarters, was presented with the Imperial Service Medal. Flight Lieutenants David Barker and Paul Terry were awarded their Cadet Forces Medal (CFM) for 12 years uniformed service in the Cadet Forces and Flight Lieutenant Maurice Clark received a bar to his CFM for a further six years service.

Long Service Commendations were made to staff members John Nicklen of 2515 (Ringwood and Fordingbridge) Squadron and Ivy Judd-Baker of 2495 (Hythe) Squadron.

Commandant Air Cadets Certificates for Meritorious Service were presented to Claire Hughes, Ann Lovejoy and Jenny Muddiman in recognition of their dedication to the Air Cadet Organisation in Hampshire and Flying Officer Pat Phillips received a Regional Commandants Certificate for her commitment to the Corps.

Wing Commanders Commendations were awarded to Squadron Leader Robert Hannam, a service helper at 1350 (Fareham) Squadron, Flight Sergeant Philip Hill for his support to 1391 (Romsey) Squadron and Sergeant Neil Robinson for his prompt actions when dealing with a first aid incident on a Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition in the Black Mountains last year.

Cadet achievements were well represented and recognised by the award of Wing Commander's Commendations. Of particular note were Cadet Sergeant Jane Powell of 1927 (Petersfield) Squadron and Cadet Sergeant Declan Murphy and Corporal Danielle Arnold of 2327 (Havant) Squadron who all acted in an exemplary manner when witnessing separate vehicle accidents at which they were able to assist.

Wing Commander's Commendations were also awarded to Cadet Peter Morris of 457 (Farnborough) Squadron to recognise his achievement of a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, Sergeant Ben Williams of 2515 (Ringwood & Fordingbridge) Squadron in recognition of playing in the Corps senior football team against the RAF Careers Select Team and Flight Sergeant James Labram of 2495 (Hythe) Squadron for achieving distinctions in every level of ATC examination.

Certificates were also awarded to recognise the 2nd place achieved in the 2008/09 Gillan Trophy competition for the best all round sports Wing in the Corps and to 2428 (Hedge End) Squadron for being the Wing representative Squadron in the 2008/09 Lees Trophy competition for the best Squadron in the Corps.

Wing Commander Peter Priest, the Wing Commanding Officer, presented certificates to Group Captain Shell OBE, Station Commander at RAF Odiham and Group Captain Montellier, Commandant of the Defence School of Personnel and Administration at Worthy Down to recognise their great support and strong ties with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wing.
