The Inter-Wing Junior Netball competition was held at RAF Lyneham on Sunday 13th February 2011. All 6 Wings within the SW Region competed in the competition, played in a 'round robin' basis, with 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and nil for a loss.

Hants & IoW first match was against Thames Valley, it was a very close fought match played at a very fast pace, it really was end to end action. With Cdt Stirling (Goal Shooter) and Cdt E Quick (Goal Attack) scoring 6 goals between them the team were eventually too strong for Thames Valley, with the match ending with a win for H&IoW, scoring 6 goals to TV 5.

With such a great start the teams confidence and moral was high, so from then on, there was no looking back! The second match was against Bristol & Gloucester Wing, who were also playing very well, but again, the Hants & IoW girls we just too strong for them with that match ending H&IoW 9 - Bristol & Gloucester 2!

The third match was against Devon & Somerset Wing, this was going to be possibly one of the toughest matches for Hants & IoW, as Devon & Somerset had brought a very strong team this year and along with Hants & IoW were the only other wing who hadn’t yet lost any matches! As the match commenced Hants & IoW quickly showed that they were not there to be beaten! With an excellent pairing in defence linked to a great attacking team by the centre court players, Hants & IoW displayed excellent passing skills and went on to a victorious win with a very impressive 13 goals to Devon & Somerset Nil.

This only left two more matchs to play, by now I could see just how much the girls wanted to and believed that they could go on to win. Their forth match, against Plymouth & Cornwall, also ended with a clean sheet, with H&IoW winning 8 – 0, and not stopping there, they went on to win their final match against Dorset & Wilts after scoring another 7 goals.

The whole team displayed excellent netball skills and team work throughout the competition and really deserved to win. At the final presentation, the girls marched out with pride and were presented with the winners trophy and medal each. This is the third win for H&IoW Junior Girls team in the last 4 years.

Four Hants & IoW Wing cadets have been selected to represent the SW Region at the Inter-Region Netball competition, which takes place on Saturday 9th April 2011, they are; Cdt Ellie Quick from 2495 Hythe Sqn, Cpl J Stirling from & Cdt Olivia Webb from 1098 Gosport Sqn and Cdt Kumari Gurung from 413 Aldershot Sqn. In addition, Cdt Hannah Dawe from 2498 Totton Sqn has also been selected as a Non Travelling Reserve.

I would like to say very well done and thank you to all the girls who were part of the junior team, their hard work, determination and commitment to wing sports has contributed to an excellent winning weekend for our wing.

Finally, my thanks also goes to Cpl Jodie Mudkins from 1927 Petersfield Sqn who came along as team coach and who’s contribution was also much appreciated
