What a great day today has been for cadets and staff from Hants & Isle of Wight Wing! At a reception held in London this morning 12 young Duke of Edinburgh's participants received their Gold Awards. HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh and founder of the Scheme met and spoke with all the recipients in the Throne Room at St James' Palace. Accompanying our high achievers and their invited guests were Civilian Instructors Louise and George Padelopoulos (DofE Leaders at 2327 Sqn), Flt Lt James Noble (Wing DofE Officer) and Wg Cdr Peter Priest (OC Wing). The presentation ceremony lasted over an hour with the individual certificates for ATC members being presented by BBC's Country File Presenter Ellie Harrison. Benedict Cumberbatch, Darcey Bussell and Larry Lamb presented awards to the non ATC groups. OC Wing and CIs Padelopoulos were lucky enough to have a tour or the Royal Palace along with other VIP Guests including Sqn Ldr Darren Butt (SW Region AT Officer); himself a keen supporter of the Scheme.
At an impromptu photocall outside Ellie took the opportunity to meet, chat and be photographed with the award winners from the Wing. A number of "selfies" were taken with her which I am sure will find their way to this site in due course!. Overall a great day and one which all recipients should proudly remember for the rest of their lives.
