Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing Air Cadets
CFAV Clay Shooting Championship 9 – 10 March
A cold wet windy weekend in Cambridgeshire at the Cambridge Gun Club was the venue for the first ever Cadet Forces Adult Staff Clay Shooting competition. The weekend consisted of a 150 bird shoot comprising of a 100 bird sporting on the Saturday shot over 10 challenging stands. The Sunday shoot was the Down the Line and the Skeet part of the competition.
There were some 40 competitors taking part from all over the country. The ACF and CCF fielded several teams. The ATC were represented with teams from Hants and Isle of Wight and Durham.
The Hants and IOW team consisted of WO Waller, Flt Dolly and WO Bradley. The Wing team returned some reasonable scores on the Saturday but it was the Hants ACF team who were at the top of the leader board after the first day the highest score of 84/100 was shot by one their team members.
Sunday’s weather started with snow which fortunately did not last. We shot our DTL and the Skeet part of the Competition and well done to WO Bradley for his score on the DTL which he has only shot once before.
Much to our surprise at the prize giving we found ourselves in second place in all three competitions which meant second place overall behind, you guessed, it Hants ACF.
WO Waller came in a very creditable third overall in the individual competition.
My thanks to the team we had a great weekend and we are looking forward to the Cadet Competition at the same venue in June this year.
